Sidney Kahn, MD, PhD, FRCPath, MFPM has been at the forefront of US and international developments in Pharmacovigilance, Risk Assessment, and Risk Management for two decades. As a recognized expert in Pharmacovigilance, he has held numerous leadership positions at Johnson & Johnson and Bristol-Myers Squibb. He was most recently Executive Director, Global Pharmacovigilance and Labeling, Bristol-Myers Squibb, where he created a high performance environment with a commitment to quality and successfully developed innovative approaches to signal detection, evaluation, and risk management.  

Throughout his industry career, Dr Kahn has been actively involved in US and
global activities to enhance Pharmacovigilance, Risk Assessment, and Risk
Management, including PhRMA representation to ICH on MedDRA EWGs (M1, MedDRA MSSO Technical Evaluation Panel), the National Coordinating Council for
Medication Error Reporting and Prevention, the PhRMA/FDA Electronic Regulatory
Submissions Task Force, the ICH Post-Marketing EWG, and membership of the
CIOMS-VI WG, a MedDRA MSSO Blue Ribbon Panel, DIA SIACs for Labeling, Clinical
Safety and Pharmacovigilance, and Terminology Management, and the HL7 SPL
Implementation Workgroup. He continues to be a frequent organizer and presenter at conferences and workshops in the USA and Europe on all aspects of
Pharmacovigilance, Risk Management, and Labeling.

Dr Kahn holds a Medical Degree from the University of Cape Town, South Africa, a Ph.D. from the University of London, and specialist certification in Chemical Pathology (Clinical Biochemistry) by the Royal College of Pathologists, London. He is a member of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Medicine of the Royal College of Physicians, U.K. His career spanned  17 years in academic laboratory medicine in the UK and USA directing large hospital laboratories and conducting basic research in clinical biochemistry and neuroimmunology, and included faculty appointments in Pathology & Laboratory Medicine and Neurology at the University of Pennsylvania.
