Barton Cobert, MD, FACP, FACG, FFPM is one of the world’s leading experts on Drug Safety and Pharmacovigilance, and author of the best selling textbook Manual of Drug Safety and Pharmacovigilance, used in training courses on drug safety and pharmacovigilance. He is also co-author ofPractical Drug Safety from A-Z,and Pharmacovigilance from A-Z: Adverse Drug Event Surveillance. He is a series editor for medical textbooks at Jones & Bartlett and is currently at work on three additional books. He has extensive experience in Drug Safety, Clinical Research, Regulatory Affairs, Risk Management, Compliance, Inspections/Audits, Data Management, and Informatics in Drug Safety and Clinical Trials. He is a frequent invited speaker at many courses and conferences including the Drug Information Association, PERI, European Society of Pharmacovigilance, WHO Anniversary Symposium on Pharmacovigilance, Uppsala Monitoring Centre, Temple University, the University of Montréal, the Journées Annuelles de Santé Publique (Quebec), and the Chinese Food & Drug Administration (SFDA) Training Session in Clinical Research, in addition to other Drug Safety conferences. He was one of the founding members of the International Conference on Harmonisation (ICH) and has worked on several ICH Working Groups and co-chaired the PSUR update group. He has also had numerous safety articles published in refereed journals and is on the Editorial Board of Expert Opinion in Drug Safety.
He was previously Global Head of Drug Safety at Schering Plough (1992-2003), Global Head of Safety at Novartis Consumer (2006-2007), and has held senior positions at Forest Laboratories, Hoechst Roussel Pharmaceuticals (now Sanofi-Aventis), Ives Laboratories (now Wyeth) and Medidata Solutions. In addition to over 18 years in Drug Safety and Pharmacovigilance, Dr. Cobert has senior level experience in Drug Safety crisis management, interactions with FDA & other health authorities, organizational re-engineering, compliance /quality, GCP, Risk Management and Drug Safety software development.
Dr Cobert is a graduate of the New York University School of Medicine where he also did his training in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. He also did a post-doctoral fellowship in hepatology at Hopital Beaujon/INSERM in Paris, France. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians, the American College of Gastroenterology, and the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Physicians. He is on staff at the NY University School of Medicine and the University of Medicine and Dentistry of NJ. He is a dual US/French citizen and has extensive experience in the US and EU.
